Dr. Moorhead was raised in a family dedicated to helping others through medicine. His grandfather was one of the first black doctors in South Florida and practiced general medicine well into his nineties; his father was an OB/GYN in Atlanta for over 30 years, and his mother was a nurse. Four of Dr. Moorhead’s older siblings also went into medicine, becoming psychiatrists, OB/GYNs and nurses.
Inspired by the difference his family was making in people’s lives, and driven by his passion for health and fitness, Dr. Moorhead also chose a career in medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science, Master in Public Health, and Doctor of Medicine at Morehouse College–the latter two were sponsored by the Navy. His internship was completed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, and he served tours of duty as a Naval Flight Surgeon at the Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville, FL; Bermuda; and Sigonella, Sicily. In 1996, Dr. Moorhead completed his Family Practice Residency at Norfolk General Hospital in Virginia and then received his Board Certification in Family Medicine. It was during residency that he developed a lasting friendship with Jeff and Molly Bullard.
Four years later, Dr. Moorhead joined the MaxHealth team with an interest in helping patients maintain their health and wellbeing throughout their lives. Dr. Moorhead offers significant experience across primary care, and has become known as a local expert in helping patients manage chronic conditions like diabetes. He is passionate about educating his patients about their conditions so they can fully participate in the disease management, and as a result, experience a better quality of life. Dr. Moorhead has also created a hormone replacement program to address the challenging issue of hormone balance in both women and men. For his excellent patient care, Dr. Moorhead has been featured on the television show “TopDoc” of DFW and was selected as a Top Doctor in Tarrant County by his peers through Fort Worth Magazine.
In his free time, Dr. Moorhead and his family enjoy running, biking, staying active, and traveling. Dr. Moorhead is also an avid sports fan, following just about every sport. A loyal patron of the arts, he enjoys visiting museums, art festivals, and cooking.
