Can manual therapy and rehabilitation help me?

Manual therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues, joints, and the spinal column using hands (and sometimes small special instruments).  The goal of manual therapy is to restore function, relieve pain, and help the body heal from an injury.  Manipulation is used to treat:

  • Neck pain

  • Headaches

  • Back pain

  • Hip pain

  • Many other conditions

Manual therapy has also been shown to be beneficial in the relief of numbness and tingling of the hands and feet.

Rehabilitation can be referred to as physical therapy or physiotherapy.  Mobility exercises, massage, ultrasound, and heat and ice treatments, are used to help heal injuries, strengthen core muscles, and keep the spine and joints in the correct position.

Rehabilitation improves skeletal or neuromuscular dysfunction.  After the initial consultation, a treatment plan is developed to focus on the problematic muscles or joints.  In between visits, the patient is typically assigned home exercises to continue strengthening and progress mobility.

Manual therapy can be a big part of rehabilitation, and both are offered at MaxHealth Family, Internal, & Sports Medicine.

Rehabilitation is also very useful after major surgeries and injuries, manage arthritis, and recover from strokes.
